“As a subscriber to Athena’s blog for a couple years, I knew her values and health and fitness beliefs aligned with my own, so I was thrilled when she started personal training. I originally signed up for a three month package with the goals of better navigating the weight room and feeling strong and confident outside of the gym. After only two months of training with Athena, I’m able to do more squats, pushups at less of an incline, and my lunges are less wobbly than they were before. Also, I can walk up the six flights of stairs at work and recover before I get back to my desk! Two months ago, it would have taken me five minutes at my desk before I felt like I could breathe normally! Athena is great at encouragement without judgement too. “I’ve known Athena for a number of years: first as a member in her classes and then as a fellow fitness instructor. I reached out to Athena a few months before my wedding to ask her if she could create a custom workout program for me for the month leading up to the big day. My goal was to keep some sort of consistency in my training during a time when I knew I would be busy and wouldn’t have the time to create my own program. What Athena created for me was exactly what I needed: full body, with an emphasis on the upper body and back (for the dress!). The workouts were also within the 30-45 minute workout time frame that I like to keep. Even though I knew going into it that a month isn’t necessarily long enough to SEE a lot of results, I will say that I definitely FELT physical results. Week to week I was increasing weights and feeling generally stronger. I also was learning some new to me exercises that I’ve since added to my own workouts and the workouts I teach. Looking back at the photos from my wedding, I can honestly thank Athena for helping me look and feel my best on that day. I have always been a group exercise person, but I very rarely used to work out on my own, except for the occasional power walk. Athena’s classes were the first classes I ever took that included methods such as circuit training, Tabata, and AMRAPs. I had never really conceptualized doing resistance training in these ways before! The way Athena organizes her classes, changes things up, and presents ideas in her blog completely changed the way I approach fitness. I began to see that all the pieces of the puzzle could be taken apart and put together in different ways.
